Peace Education Announcement!

In November 2019, I submitted an application for the Ursula Thrush Peace Seed Grant presented by the American Montessori Society, with a vision to expand North Star Montessori’s Peace Education to the outdoors, with a stage where we can share stories, songs, and skits centered on peace. 

The AMS Peace & Social Justice Committee awards annual Peace Seed Grants to help fund projects that promote peace and social justice education. The grants are presented in memory of educator Ursula Thrush, whose dedication to the concept of peace and social justice through children inspired many to advance this education in their classrooms and communities.

This past January, I was notified that we were one of the seven Montessori schools selected from across the country to receive the Ursula Thrush Peace Seed Grant for our Peace Stage! 

Initially, we were to receive the funding in April, and we planned to invite NSM families to participate in the building process. However, due to Covid-19, the funding was delayed and we were unsure about the future of our stage.

We have recently received the funding and this weekend my family and I have begun building the stage. We hope to complete the project in the coming weeks!

During the time we spend together at the peace stage, I envision North Star Montessori teachers and students presenting multicultural stories, skits, and songs with themes such as having concern for others, respecting the rights of others, being kind, and the power of hope and love. 

We are excited for the future when we can invite visitors to read, present, make music, and enjoy our new stage!
